SEYMOUR

           – Most families today have more than enough to care for during daily life. When a death in the family occurs- whether expected or sudden- often, surviving family members are left to deal with the plethora of arrangements and decisions surrounding their loved one’s funeral service.

There are so many decisions to be made, and often family members are scattered living outside the area. Would mom want a wake; dad to be cremated? What about choices of caskets and types of services.

Your local area funeral director can help you and your family alleviate the questions and uncertainty by helping you put your plans in place while you are still alive and in good health.

No matter what stage of life you are in, funeral homes like Miller Macari Family Funeral Home in Seymour can help you create the plan that gives you and your family peace of mind. “Preplanning allows you to make clear what your intentions are,” states Jerry Macari Jr. , owner and Senior Funeral Director at Miller Macari. “Involving your family in the process while you are still here gives them a sense of comfort knowing your wishes are shaped and understood in advance.”

By prepaying for a funeral or cremation, families often save hundreds of dollars in funeral costs by locking in the cost of a funeral well in advance of the event. Pre-planning contributions are fixed and placed in legal trusts that protect families from future inflation and price increases which inevitably come with time. Families can designate the fund to cover all costs of a funeral, including memorials, services, even monuments, cremation and cemetery costs. And the detailed records are kept locally, enabling changes to be made at any time.

In a trend reflecting national funeral service changes, the Ansonia valley area is seeing increases in creative memorial services to honor the lives of those lost.

“As no two people are alike, no two memorial services are any longer,” states Jerry Macari Jr, President and Senior Director of Miller Macari Family Funeral Home in Seymour. “We take great pride in working with families to create memorial tributes as unique as the person whose life is being celebrated.”

“We are seeing a number of these personalized tributes here in the Seymour and Ansonia areas of late,” adds Macari. “In an era of increasing cremations and departures from traditional funerals, creativity becomes personalized. It’s something special for the deceased as well as those paying their respects. They thoroughly enjoy the touch.”

SEYMOUR — A true “truckers’ tribute” proceeded across the streets of Seymour Saturday, October 5, as fallen trucker Justin Gittings was laid to rest in motor style. Justin Gittings, son of Elizabeth Politis and Gary Gittings, and a lifelong Seymour resident, passed away September 23rd, succumbing to injuries suffered 34 days earlier as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Justin was a member of the Boy Scouts of America with Troop 11 in Seymour, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He became a part of the R & S Trucking family in 2021, one of only a few of their drivers to haul cross-country loads. An avid motorcyclist, Nascar and antique car enthusiast, his passion for life was celebrated by friends, family and co-workers at PNA Park following the procession.

SEYMOUR — The Miller Macari Family Funeral Home, formerly known as the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, is under new ownership. The family shared with Voices that they want to continue to help community members celebrate their loved one’s lives. The Macaris took over the business in January. According to the new operations manager, Michael Macari, the location was founded as a funeral home in 1842. The Millers bought the business from the Ward family in 1968 and have been there since.

Long-time owner Carl Miller sought out funeral director Jerry Macari of Stamford to take over the business. Jerry’s uncle, Michael Macari, believes this is because of the youth and experience his nephew brings to the business.
