Samuel R. Kowal, LUTCF, age 75 of Seymour, CT entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 3, 2023. He was born in Waterbury, CT., on December 14, 1947, and was the loving son of the late Samuel and Helen (Gesek) Kowal. Sam was raised in Seymour, CT, a graduate of Seymour High School, and later graduated from Sacred Heart University with a BA in Business Administration. While attending college and raising a young family, he worked for the Town of Seymour, and was a Union President for many years. In 1979, Sam joined the New York Life Insurance Company. He was a Senior NYLIC Agent and Registered Representative for New York Life Insurance Company for 43+ years. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards both locally and nationally. His many accomplishments included Life Council Member, which earned him the coveted gold Council ring, for qualifying for 20 consecutive councils; member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors; qualifier and member of the industry's prestigious Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), writing 100 or more cases in a year. His legacy remains forever enshrined on a plaque, within the walls of the New York Life Home Office on Madison Avenue in New York City, for his commitment and service to his clients, career and the company. In his free time, Sam enjoyed watching the New York Yankees baseball games, attending classic car shows, and playing his drums. Sam was a talented drummer, and was a member of several rock and roll bands such as the Marauders, the Westminsters, Sheffield Spring, Back Slide, and Hot Rox; cutting a record, performing at many venues in the tri-state area, and landing as the opening act for the American rock band, The Rascals. Sam was also an accomplished golfer, winning the 1992 Golf Champion at Grassy Hill Country Club in Orange, CT, and the 2008 Senior Club Champion at Yale Golf Course/Yale University in New Haven, CT. He was a devout communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd/St. Nicholas Parish of Seymour, CT, and served as an usher for many years. Sam's daughters were first and foremost in his heart. He was an attentive father, always there for his daughters 24/7, listening, talking, and offering his guidance and wisdom. He loved family vacations in North Myrtle Beach and Florida. In the winter, he loved to watch the New York Giants football games and UCONN basketball games with his daughter Christine. Either on TV or in person, he loved watching the New York Yankees baseball games with his daughter Jennifer. Most of all he loved to spend time with his dearest granddaughter, Samantha, affectionately named after him. He will be forever remembered not only as a professional businessman, but also as a true gentleman and a "giver" of his free time. He was known to offer an ear to his clients, as well as friends, neighbors, and colleagues, whom he would spend hours and hours just listening to, offering advice and a shoulder to cry on. His loving family, includes his two beloved daughters Jennifer L. Kowal and Christine G. Kowal, his cherished granddaughter Samantha L. Kowal (Michael Pariseau), brother Richard A. Kowal (Carol), niece Taylor M. DaSilva (Roberto), and nephew Brian R. Kowal (Khrystyna). Sam is also survived by several caring cousins, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and clients. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Church of the Good Shepherd Church of St. Nicholas Parish, 135 Mountain Rd. Seymour. Friends and Family may call the funeral home Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 10:00am-1:00 pm. A private burial will take place after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Samuel R. Kowal's memory to help offset the financial burdens imposed on his family, during this sorrowful time, through Miller.
