Alfred James Pokrywka, 84, a resident of Seymour, CT, passed away on May 5, 2026 at his home. He was the husband of Susan (Ploski) Pokrywka, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Al was born on August 4, 1941 in New Milford, CT, the son of the late Paul and Jospehine (Yablonski) Pokrywka. He graduated from Seymour High School, and served in the National Guard, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant.
Al worked for 22 years as a machinist and as management at Farrel Corp. and then founded his own machine shop, Phoenix Machine, in 1984, which is still in business. He never fully retired and enjoyed keeping a hand in the business the rest of his life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing midget cars and restoring antique cars. He was an enthusiastic participant in countless antique car shows and cruise nights. He was a member of the Atlantic Coast Old Timers, the Secrets of Speed Society, the Model A Ford Club of America and the Russian American Club of Seymour.
Al is survived by his wife Susan, his son James and his wife Kathy, his daughter Nancy and her wife Joy, and his grandsons William and Bennett. Al was predeceased by his brother John Pokrywka and his sister Judy Cassetti.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, May 11 from 4:00-7:00pm at Miller Macari Family Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street, Seymour, CT. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday May 12 at 10:00 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Mountain Road, Seymour. A private burial will follow.
