Aurora Alcantara

Dr. Aurora Alcantara, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, physician, and devout Catholic, passed away on July 16, 2026, at the age of 94, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was a testament to her faith, devotion, courage, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the people she loved.

Aurora was born on June 4, 1932, and was raised in the Philippines, carrying her heritage with pride throughout her life. She left her family home in 1960 to begin her journey to the United States and start her medical career. Her childhood sweetheart, Jaime, followed her one year later.

Aurora and Jaime built a beautiful life together as husband and wife, raising four daughters-Jennifer, Aileen, Josephine, and Aurora-whom they adored.

After Jaime passed away in 1993, Aurora never dated again. He was her one and only true love, and she carried him in her heart for the rest of her life.

Aurora practiced as an anesthesiologist for many years before changing her specialty to psychiatry, as she truly enjoyed talking with and helping people. Her patients trusted her, her colleagues respected her, and her compassion shaped countless lives. She approached her profession with humility, dedication, and a profound sense of purpose.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Aurora prayed every day, thanking God for her blessings and lifting up her family, both near and far. She prayed constantly for her loved ones in the Philippines, keeping them close in her heart.

Aurora's joys were simple. She loved feeding people, treating friends and family to meals, and supporting organizations that helped others. She enjoyed Filipino cooking, gardening, playing the piano, watching game shows-especially Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune-as well as crime shows and action films.

She is survived by her four daughters: Jennifer Alcantara, Aileen Alcantara, Josephine Maehl (Dr. Jeffrey Maehl), and Aurora DeToto; her four grandchildren: Antigua Samuelson (Steven Panarelli), Monique Lee (David Lee), Olivia DeToto, and Connor Maehl; her great-grandson, Beaux Panarelli; her sister, Elena Barretto; and many beloved relatives in the Philippines, each of whom carries her strength, her faith, and her love forward.

Aurora was preceded in death by her husband, Jaime Alcantara; her son-in-law, David DeToto; her sister, Teresita Alvarez; and her brother, Meny Fineza.

We would like to thank Aurora's many caregivers in Wisconsin and Connecticut, who took such wonderful care of her as we navigated her dementia and Alzheimer's disease. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Hospice Care for helping make her final days as comfortable as possible.

Aurora's story will continue to be told through the people she nurtured, the lives she healed, and the family she built. She will be missed beyond measure and remembered forever.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on August 4, 2026 at Miller Macari Funeral Home 260 Bank Street Seymour, CT .
