Carol N. Conklin, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2026.
Born and raised in Chicago, Carol attended Fenger High School and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago where she developed a lifelong love of art and creative endeavors. She married Donald (Don) Conklin in 1958, beginning a marriage and family life defined by enduring love, devotion, and companionship.
Their early years together took them throughout the Midwest before they settled in Redding, Connecticut in 1969, where they made their cherished home for the next four decades. In their later years, Carol and Don started a new chapter at Oxford Greens (CT).
A dedicated member of the Redding community, Carol formed many lasting friendships in her involvement with the First Church of Christ Congregational, Meals on Wheels, the Redding Garden Club and as Probate Clerk for the Town of Redding. Proud of her Scottish heritage, Carol possessed a spirited personality and a wonderful sense of humor.
Carol had a special gift for making every occasion memorable. Her creativity, wonderful cooking, and thoughtful attention to detail became the foundation of cherished family traditions. She delighted in bringing family and friends together around the table particularly around the holidays. She especially loved a sunny afternoon surrounded by red geraniums, sharing laughter, and enjoying the company of those dearest to her.
Carol and Don shared a love of travel, exploring destinations both near and far and making treasured visits with their children and grandchildren. Their marriage was marked by shared laughter and a deep appreciation for one another. It was a partnership that endured through the years and their love remained an inspiration to family and friends. They continued to share that laughter until Don's passing in March 2026.
Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband, Don, and is survived by their four children, Neil Conklin, Kristi Reilly, Sandi Bergeron (Allen), and Erin Blackwelder (Ben); six cherished grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Carol was lovingly cared for by granddaughter, Mallory, whose devoted care brought comfort to both Carol and Don during their final years. The family also extends its heartfelt thank you to Shoshanah for her dedication, compassion, and support.
Should you find yourself surrounded by gardens on a sunny day, lift a glass of white wine and toast to a life well lived.
