Donald W. Sosnovich, age 78, of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026, after a hard-fought long illness. On the very day he passed, his high school sweetheart and devoted wife, Patricia, of 56 years, (who we lost five years ago to the day) descended from Heaven and took her beloved Donny home.
In addition to his late wife, Patty, Donald is survived by his son Michael J. (Jean) Sosnovich of Beacon Falls; son Donald J. Sosnovich of Seymour, son Scott J. (Angela) Sosnovich of Middletown, brother Richard Sosnovich (Diane) of Seymour and several nieces and nephews. Donald also leaves behind the brightest lights in his life, grandchildren Zachary, Emily, Natalie, Aiden, Jordan and Tyler Sosnovich, along with his faithful, four-legged best friend, Lucy.
Donald was predeceased by his parents Peter and Stacia Sosnovich and brother Peter Sosnovich, Jr.
Born June 21,1947 in Derby, Donald was a humble, hard-working man, who in his younger years, often held down three jobs to ensure his beloved Patty and three boys were always well-cared for.
He had a long and successful career as an inspector for Pratt and Whitney before retiring in 2011. Always community-minded, Donald volunteered his time on various Seymour town boards and commissions. A huge sports fan, Donald also devoted many years to coaching Seymour Little League and youth basketball. He cherished his time spent with fellow diehard baseball fans at his favorite club, the Silver Sluggers, a group of guys who bonded over their love of America’s favorite pastime.
Donald loved the beach, going to the movies, and traveling to Disney World with his kids and grandkids, Las Vegas with his friends, Ogunquit, Maine and cheering for the New York Yankees. He was an avid golfer. One of his proudest moments on the links happened on Aug. 30, 2024 at the Hop Brook Golf Course in Naugatuck. At 76 years young, Donald sunk his first hole-in-one at the 5th hole, at 124 yards, using his 8-iron.
A proud graduate of Seymour High School's Class of '64, Donald served as class vice-president and excelled as a three-sport athlete for the Seymour Wildcats. Donald loved going to the casino and especially enjoyed watching his beloved UCONN Huskies. He loved Christmas, spoiling the grandkids and helping Patty set up their Dickens village and watched in amazement while she wrapped sky-high piles of presents for the family. Donald was a great cook and caterer for years. He cherished the time spent sitting around the dining room table with his family, followed by playing a game of Setback after a big holiday meal.
Donald’s greatest joy in life was his family and large circle of friends. He treasured his role as husband, father, grandpa, loyal friend and dog-father to Lucy. He always put everyone’s needs above his own, right up until the end. His family and friends were blessed to have known him and will cherish Donald’s kind-hearted nature and zest for life forever.
