Edward Joseph "Eddie" Bachiocchi, 79, of Oxford, CT, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at 9:26 PM, surrounded by his loving family. Ed faced a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome—caused by exposure to contaminated drinking water at Camp Lejeune—for over a decade, and more recently, pancreatic cancer.
Born on November 23, 1945, in New Haven, CT, Ed was the beloved son of the late Marino and Candida (Castracane) Bachiocchi. A proud graduate of West Haven High School, Class of 1963, he went on to serve his country with honor as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1967. His service included a six-month deployment to Vietnam, Okinawa, Japan, and Hawaii.
During his time stationed in Hawaii, Ed had the unique opportunity to meet John Wayne, Henry Fonda, and George Kennedy while they were filming In Harm’s Way. He even had a small role in the movie—a moment of pride he fondly recalled throughout his life.
Ed dedicated 28 years to his career as a Communications Technician with Southern New England Telephone (SNET), followed by his time with Carol Communications until his retirement. In his later years, he found joy in driving school buses for Oxford Public Schools, affectionately known as "Mr. Ed" to the children he transported.
A devoted husband to Kimberly, Ed treasured traveling with her, embarking on cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska, camping trips with family and friends, and unforgettable journeys to the Grand Canyon. Whether gathered around a campfire at home or hosting legendary Bachiocchi Backyard Bonfires, he created lasting memories filled with warmth and laughter.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Ed was a die-hard New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He had a soft spot for classic films, with My Cousin Vinny, Rocky, and anything starring John Wayne taking precedence on his screen. His ability to recite the entire intro to The Adventures of Superman from the 1950s TV series was a cherished party trick.
Ed was immensely proud of his son, EJ, and never missed an opportunity to support him at sporting events. One of his greatest joys was serving as an assistant coach for EJ's Seymour Pop Warner football team in 2005—helping lead the team to a District Championship.
At home, Ed and Kimberly worked side by side, transforming their house into a home where everyone was welcome, no matter the hour. Their playful water fights and shared antics were a testament to the love and laughter that filled their lives.
Ed’s devotion to his pets was unwavering, and their loyalty to him was just as strong. His Bullmastiffs, Otis & Hero, brought him endless pride. His faithful Minatare Schnauzer Zoe who never left his side, growling gently to ensure caregivers handled Ed with care.
Ed is survived by his wife, Kimberly Bachiocchi (Kurtz); his son, Edward Bachiocchi Jr., and his wife, Caitlin (Murphy); his grandson, Colton Bachiocchi of Oxford; his daughter, Lisa Hills (Bachiocchi), and her husband, Chris Hills, of North Branford; and his granddaughters, Isabella and Adriana Hills. He is also survived by his sister, Frances Wood (Johnson/Bachiocchi), and her husband, Barry Wood, of Hamden; as well as his brother-in-law, Larry McHugh. He was predeceased by his sister, Linda McHugh (Bachiocchi), father-in-law Harry W. Kurtz, and brother-in-law Jeff Kurtz. His presence will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews: Cheryl Johnson and her partner, Kathy Henry; Lynn Johnson and her partner, Pam Johnson, all of North Haven; Robert Johnson of Wallingford; Sean & Lori McHugh of Middletown; Larry McHugh and Michael McHugh of California, mother-in-law Janice Naczi (Basile/Kurtz) of Oxford
