Esther Florence Skerlick

Esther Florence Skerlick, 92, of Shelton, the beloved wife of the late Franklin "Panky" Skerlick, entered into rest peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Griffin Hospital. She was born in Seymour on February 15, 1924, daughter of the late Henry and Tillie Ulrich Schiek. She had resided in St. Petersburg, FL for 16 years. Esther was a devoted mother and homemaker. She loved cooking and baking (welcoming all into her home anytime for a meal or baked good). She enjoyed reading, playing games and cards, and watching sports on TV (an avid Yankee fan). She was a volunteer and a blood donor for the American Red Cross. She was also very active in the school PTA serving for many years on its board. She was a woman of great faith and loved going to church. Esther will be sadly missed by her family and friends and will remain forever in their hearts. Esther is survived by her three sons: Bruce (Madelene) Skerlick of Nebo, NC, Franklin (Brenda) Skerlick of Tucson, AZ and Frederick Skerlick of St. Petersburg, FL; her four daughters Sharon (Robert) Maler of Ansonia, Karen Cassetti of Shelton, Nancy (Carl) Passaro of West Haven and Lynn Skerlick of Shelton; her brother Raymond Schiek of Fair Oaks, CA; fifteen cherished grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her daughter Sue Skerlick and her two son-in-laws Rudy Cassetti and Robert Wilson. A Funeral Service in Celebration of Esther's Life will be held on Saturday, July16, 2016 at 10:30am at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village), Seymour with the Reverend Dr. Joseph Mixie, Pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Milford, officiating. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:00am until the start of the service at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Pines Bridge Cemetery, Beacon Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Esther's memory may be made to Hospice Care at Griffin Hospital.
