Francis “Frank” Leeney, 98, of Seymour, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, with his daughter by his side.
Frank was born on June 11, 1927, in West Haven, Connecticut. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning several medals, including the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Infantry’s Combat Badge.
Following his military service, Frank worked as a machinist throughout his civilian career. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, reading, and playing the piano. He was a man of many stories, rooted in his love for family and a full life of travel that often-included long bike rides and camping adventures.
Frank is survived by his children, Kenneth (Marilyn) Leeney, Cheryl Tomarelli (Leeney), and Scott (Lita)Leeney; as well as his seven grandchildren Christina Renaldi, Mike Tomarelli, Travis and Mathew Leeney, Jay and Rob Leeney and Shayla Leeney and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Leeney, his son-in-law John Tomarelli and his two sisters.
A private viewing will be held on December 31, 2025, at The Miller-Macari Family Funeral Home, 260 Bank St., Seymour, CT. Family and friends are invited to attend the burial service at 11:30 a.m. with military honors at Pine Grove Cemetery, 15 Church Street, Ansonia, Connecticut 06401.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
