Gerard Roger Brochu

Gerard Brochu, 103, of Oxford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on June 26, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Gerard was born June 19,1923, in Hardwick, Vermont to the late Davila Brochu and Elodie (Patoine) Brochu. He was the devoted husband of the late Rollande (Noel) Brochu for over 70 years.

Gerard grew up on a dairy farm on his beloved Bridgman Hill in a loving home with his parents and thirteen lively siblings. Their lives were rooted in family, faith, and the rigorous work of maintaining a farm. Gerard attended Cobb School, a one-room schoolhouse on Bridgman Hill. Throughout his life he shared heartwarming stories of life on the farm and his experiences at Cobb School.

In 1943, Gerard moved to Oxford to work at what is now known as Rich Farm. He married his sweetheart Rollande in 1946 and together they built a home and raised their family. Gerard was a loyal employee of Kerite Company in Seymour, Connecticut for many years. He also worked as a bus driver, bringing many Sacred Heart Academy students back and forth from school. He maintained an expansive garden at home, continued the Vermont tradition of maple sugaring, and tended to the woods on his property, finally hanging up his chainsaw at age 100.

Gerard was also a man of deep faith. He was an active member of his parish, St. Thomas the Apostle, and served as a Eucharistic minister with his wife Rollande for many years.

Gerard leaves to cherish his memory his children Roger and wife Linda of Seymour, Connecticut; David and fiancée Jane of Kent, UK; Philip and wife Mary Jane of Allentown, Pennsylvania; and Annette of Shelton, Connecticut; as well as twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters, Louise and Lise. He also leaves behind sister Gisele Guillette of Naugatuck, Connecticut; brother Jacques and his wife Jeannette of Colchester, Vermont; and sister-in-law Mary Brochu of Bennington, Vermont.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, July 2, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Miller Macari Family Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street, Seymour, Connecticut. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour, Connecticut. Burial will immediately follow at Southford Cemetery, Rt 67 & Hawley Road, Oxford, Connecticut.
