Larry Sigmund Solanch, age 76, of Seymour, entered into rest over this past weekend, December 10, 2023 in his apartment after returning from a stay in Griffin Hospital for several health issues. He was the beloved husband of 33 years of the late Margaret (Meg) Philbin Ph. D. who predeceased him in February 2021. Larry was born in Bridgeport, the son of Norman and Eleonore (Lore) Solanch. In his immediate family he was predeceased by Suzzanne Solanch who passed shortly after birth in 1958. He is survived by his brother, Mark A. Solanch (Nancy) of Seymour, nephew Matthew A. Solanch (Michela) & great-nephew, William of Southbury, nephew Ryan K. Solanch (Alison), great nephew Jake & great niece Kylie of Oxford, stepdaughters Miriam Papp (Tom) of Arizona and Leah Papp of Pennsylvania. Larry was always focused on his personal education. He studied and/or taught at various high schools and universities in Connecticut, New York, Ohio, Colorado, Mississippi, Georgia as well as a Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona until retiring due to declining health. Interested in science, he did lab work studying primate brain activity while studying for a degree in Neuropsychology as well as work in Osaka, Japan assisting research with NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. His graduate studies led to degrees in Math, Physics, Experimental Psychology and was Board Certified by the American Board of School Neuropsychology with recognition as a Diplomate of the American Board of School Neuropsychology. Larry was an avid reader and never stopped learning. It was rare for him to be without one or two of his three Kindles stuffed in a pocket, his face buried in a book or surfing the Internet at all hours. Meg and Larry were married on a hilltop in Vermont, they taught at local schools/universities. They followed various teaching jobs travelling to upstate New York and ultimately Milledgeville, GA before retiring there. Meg and Larry loved cats and fostered many (so many cats!) during their married life. Illness ultimately separated them with Meg being moved to Pennsylvania for closer, family care and Larry moving back to Connecticut to be closer to his family. Larry made many friends everywhere he lived. He loved crossword puzzles in the New York Times, Wordle online, was well-known to have an exceptional memory and a rapier wit which peppered many conversations with humorous quips, puns and sarcasm.
