Madeline Rose Hanusovsky, 73, of Oxford, CT, passed away unexpectedly while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.Madeline was born on January 31, 1952, daughter of the late Boniface and Victoria Rossi. She grew up on 3M Farm in Georgetown, CT with her sister Maryann and her late brother Michael. She was a member of the first co-ed class at Fairfield University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 1974. It was at Fairfield University that Madeline met her husband, John. Together for a total of 54 years, they joined in wedded bliss in 1978. The extrovert to her introvert, he could always make her smile. Madeline and John raised their two daughters, Victoria and Elizabeth, in Oxford, CT, where they have resided for nearly 40 years. Their home on Woodside Avenue hosted numerous celebrations for family and friends. An excellent cook and baker, Madeline was happiest when she was feeding her family (or her cats); her oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are legendary. If she wasn’t at home, she wanted to be on Cape Cod, and her family was blessed to have just spent a week together there. She cherished a nice cup of tea and a good book, but her greatest joy in life was her four grandchildren: Hank, Hannah, Maddie, and Ellie. Madeline passed down her artistic skills and a love of reading to her grandchildren. She celebrated all their accomplishments and took every opportunity to spend time with them. Madeline was a paraprofessional on the 3rd grade team at Oxford Center School for 30 years, a fitting career for someone who valued education so highly. True to her selfless nature, “Mrs. H.” took pride in managing behind-the-scenes needs and helping where needed. She was lucky to have colleagues who became dear friends.Madeline gave her family all of her love till the very end. She is survived by her Beloved John; her daughters Vicki (Mike) and Lizzie (Dave); her grandchildren Hank, Hannah, Maddie, and Ellie; her sister Maryann; her sister-in-law Patty Ann (Andy) and brother-in-law Robert (Merilyn); her nieces and nephew and their families; and countless extended family members and friends whom she loved so much.Loved ones and friends are invited to celebrate Madeline at a funeral mass on Thursday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church (135 Mountain Road, Seymour, CT). Per her wishes, burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Madeline’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org). Her family invites you to remember her whenever you a) bake cookies, b) pet a cat, c) make a list, or d) spend time with the ones you love.
