On Tuesday, August 17, 2021, Madeline J. Sarkes entered into eternal rest peacefully at the age of 94. She was surrounded by her loving family at the Shady Knoll Health Center in Seymour. Madeline was born on June 27, 1927, in New Bedford, MA to Joseph and Victoria Barbour Sarkes. She was an Executive Secretary for the President of the Uniroyal Corporation for over 40 years receiving many awards. She was also a devout communicant of the St. Augustine Church in Seymour and served as President of their Sacred Heart League for several years. Madeline had a passion for painting and loved art. She also was an avid gardener and grew many vegetables and flowers. She combined her two passions and would create beautiful paintings of flowers and landscapes. Her talents were exceptional, and she passed on what she knew about both to her niece and great-niece to follow in her paths. She would often be found singing when painting or gardening and always had a smile for everyone. Madeline is survived by her devoted sister Patricia Joseph of Groton and dedicated niece Michelle Koether, her husband Robert of Seymour, her cherished great-niece Victoria Koether. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jacqueline Sarkes, her nephews Joseph, Daniel and Alfred Sarkes, James, Thomas and David Webber, nieces Victoria Macdonald, Sheila Sarkes, Tracy Webber and Karen Clements and many great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Victoria, her brothers Alfred Sarkes and Thomas Sarkes and her sisters Joan Webber, Theresa Sorce, Marie Sarkes and Dorothy Sarkes. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine Church followed by interment in the family plot at St. Augustine Cemetery in Seymour. There will be no visitation. In family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Madeline's memory be made to a continuing education scholarship fund for ‘Victoria Koether'.
