Mary Louise (Drobne) Pavlo, 94, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully into the Lord’s loving embrace at her home on June 14. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Stephen, parents John Drobne and Mary (Yuhasz) Drobne, and her brother John Richard Drobne. Mary Lou, as she was known to most, attended Munhall High School in Munhall, PA and was first employed as a saleswoman at McCrory Department stores, followed by positions as an accountant at both Nabisco and United States Steel, Homestead Works. Everyone at the workplace would always come back to Mary Lou to resolve discrepancies in numbers on their accounts. Mary Lou met her future husband, Stephen, the love of her life, at a wedding banquet. The two corresponded for the next 8 years via letters between them, before marrying and having four wonderful children Christine, Johnny, Stephanie, and Robby. Mary Lou dedicated the rest of her life as a hard working housewife in support of her husband Stephen and their four children. She took care of all family members with meticulous detail, always maintaining a clean home, clean clothes, extra care during sickness, and daily home-cooked Slovak meals, many based on her mother Mary’s homemade recipes. Most notable were her Pierogies, Haluski, Stuffed Cabbage, Potato Salad, Cold Dough Cakes, Sour Green Bean Soup, and Machunka Peas, amongst others. Family members outside the immediate family would always ask Mary Lou to make these specialty foods for all their parties. Mary Lou had an unwavering faith in the Lord, and was a member of St Theresa Church in Trumbull for over 60 years. She enjoyed bowling for many years with the St Theresa Woman’s Bowling League and was an active member of the Bowling Banquet Committee. She was also an active member of the parish Summer Picnic Committee, Cub Scout Hospitality Committee, and Confraternity of the Rosary Society. In addition, Mary Lou was always sure to help others by assisting her neighbors in need with food, errands, or general support, especially to those who were elderly, and needed some extra help. She also was an advocate for the American Cancer Society by walking door-to-door in her neighborhood with her daughter, Stephanie, collecting donations. She was a wiz with numbers and never ceased to amaze her children with how quickly she could perform calculations in her head. In her younger days, Mary Lou enjoyed spending time with friends at Polka dances and the local “sock hops.” Fun pastimes carried over into her married life as Mary Lou and Stephen enjoyed attending polka mass dinner/dances together, going to craft fairs, and taking walks by the local beach. Probably her most favorite game of all time was BINGO, and she would enjoy going out several nights a week to meet up with her group of friends and play. Neighboring players were always amazed at the large number of cards she could play at one time. She was quite a lucky player at times, even scoring the $1500 Jackpot on Special games. Lottery Tickets, especially scratch-offs, were another favorite, and always a welcomed gift. Her other favorites were board games, card games, and dominoes. In addition, Mary Lou was a dedicated TV viewer of Soap Operas, game shows, and old movies. She was also very fond of all her cats to include Herman, Diamonds, Sonny, Frisky, and Dobie. Mary Lou was a very strong woman who loved her husband and children and cats tremendously. Mary Lou leaves behind her beloved children Christine Babina (David) of Oxford, Connecticut:, John Pavlo of Oxford, Connecticut, Stephanie Dancsak (David) of The Woodlands, Texas: and Robert Pavlo (Rachel Harrington-Pavlo) of Milford, Connecticut. In addition, she leaves behind her loving granddaughters Arianne Babina (Adam Kirsch) of Glasgow, Scotland, Melissa Babina (Jacob Drozd) of El Paso, Texas: Samantha Pavlo of Oxford, Connecticut, and great-granddaughter, Ava Hayden of Milford, Connecticut: also grandsons Gregory Babina of Milford, Connecticut (Nerissa Asson, fiancee), and Benjamin Pavlo of Oxford, Connecticut, and her constant companion and loyal cat of 15 years, Dobie.
