Morton Andrew Mitchell, 84, a resident of Oxford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
Morton was born on June 21, 1942, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was the son of the late Florence D. Cummins Mitchell and Jerome B. Mitchell.
Morton graduated from Bullard-Havens Technical School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from October 30, 1963, to October 29, 1966, where he met his loving wife, Okcha.
Following his military service, Morton began a long and dedicated career at Sikorsky Aircraft, where he worked for 35 years before retiring.
Morton enjoyed listening to music and was an avid sports fan. He loved spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed assisting Okcha with cooking, particularly during the holidays.
Morton is survived by his loving wife, Okcha, and his son, Johnny Mitchell. He is also survived by six brothers and sisters: Marilyn Liggins; Jerome (Mitch) Mitchell; Florence Ann Sharp; Mark Mitchell (Carolyn); Joel Mitchell (Karyl); and Hope Mitchell Brewer (Warren). He was predeceased by his sister, Deborah Mitchell Forizs.
He is lovingly remembered by his three grandchildren: Shaquille Mitchell (Kimberly), Johnathan Mitchell, and Quacy Mitchell; and his great-grandchild, Juda. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Miller Macari Family Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street, Seymour, CT 06483. Burial will immediately follow at Mountain Meadows Cemetery, 117 Mountain Road, Seymour, CT 06483.
