Richard "Dick" Libby, 91, of Seymour, Connecticut, passed away on April 14, 2026. Born on February 11, 1935, in Derby, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Herbert J. Libby, Sr. and the late Florence (Johns) Libby.

Dick grew up in the Valley and graduated from Seymour High School before heading south to Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. From 1959 to 1965, he proudly served in the United States Army, spending part of his service stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged and returned home to build a career in banking, working for many years as a manager at Derby Savings Bank.

Seymour was always home for Dick, and he was the kind of person who found deep contentment in the rhythms of his community. He was a relatively quiet man, though those who knew him well understood that beneath that calm exterior was a deceptive sense of humor. You never quite knew if he was pulling your leg, and that was part of his charm. He was devoted to his family and cherished his relationships with his parents, his brothers, and his niece and nephew.

Dick had a genuine love of travel and made several memorable trips to Europe over the years. Closer to home, he was a dedicated stamp and coin collector and could often be found enjoying lunch with friends at Bobby Fritzes, his favorite local diner. He was active in the Seymour Senior Center and often participated in group trips. He was an active and faithful member of the Seymour Congregational Church, where he participated in various committees. His faith was a steady presence in his life, and the church community meant a great deal to him.

In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his brothers, Herbert J. Libby, Jr., and William Libby. He is survived by his nephew, Reid Libby, his niece, Kyle Darnell, his great nephew, Cameron Darnell, and his great niece Linsday Darnell.
