Serafino (Red) John Dellapiano, 91, of Seymour, the beloved husband of 62 years to the late Claire Francione Dellapiano, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at GriffinHospital, Derby. He was born in Derby on June 24, 1919, son of the late Enrico and Filomena Angelucci Dellapiano. He was a devout communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Red was a Production Checker for the Farrel Corporation of Ansonia for a number of years and was the owner of Del's Appliance, Inc of Ansonia for over 25 years. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII as a Seaman First Class, serving with the Combat Demolition Unit 28 and saw action in the D-Day Normandy Beach Invasion where he was wounded and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and the "Cross of War" given by the French government for his service to their nation and also received the Union Commendation medal. He was a member of the Emil Senger Post #10, American Legion of Seymour, for many years. Red resided in Seymour for 50 years, previously residing in Ansonia. His loving family includes his cherished sister, Lucy Dellapiano, of Derby. He also leaves several caring nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Claire, he was predeceased by his beloved brothers, John and Lawrence Dellapiano, and his beloved sisters, Florence and Mary Dellapiano. A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Serafino's life will be offered on MONDAY, JUNE 27, 2011 at 10:00 am (DIRECTLY) at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road,Seymour. Interment with full military honors accorded, will be in the family plot at Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Friends and relatives may call on SUNDAY at the Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
