Shirley Marie Bowen, age 87, of Seymour, the beloved wife of 65 years to the late Everett H. Bowen, entered into rest peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Griffin Hospital, Derby surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Derby on June 23, 1930, daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Volz) Morris. Shirley was a lifelong Seymour resident and a graduate of Seymour High School. She was a member of the Oxford Senior Center and had been a volunteer for the Seymour Oxford Food Bank and a Senior Mentor at Bungay School for many years. She had worked in the Seymour School System for years as a Teacher's Aide and at Ames Department Store upon her retirement. Most of all, Shirley loved spending time with her grandchildren and cherished every moment she had with them. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends and will remain forever in our hearts. Her loving family includes her caring daughter Melissa Scalzi and her husband Joseph, her three cherished grandchildren Rose, James and William Scalzi, her beloved niece Cathy Blow as well as several other loving nieces and nephews. Along with her beloved husband and parents, Shirley was predeceased by her sister Audrey Foley and niece Deborah Foley. A Funeral Mass in Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 421 Oxford Road, Oxford. Interment in the family plot at Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour will follow. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday morning. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Shirley's memory may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
