Thomas Sarkes

Thomas Sarkes, age 91, of Seymour, the beloved husband of 37 years to Jacqueline Boulay Sarkes, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Bridgeport. He was born in New Bedford, MA on August 7, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Victoria Sarkes. Tom was a lifelong Seymour resident and a devout communicant of St. Augustine Church in Seymour. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and was an Aviation Tech for Boeing for many years. Tom proudly served his country as a member of the US Army Air Corp. He loved airplanes and knew everything about them. Tom built a SE5 bi-plane from scratch that is now on display at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, VA and taught aviation for many years at the airport in Bridgeport. He loved being with his family and many friends and will be sadly missed by all but will remain forever in our hearts. Tom's family in addition to his loving wife Jackie includes his two sons Ronald Schmecker, Sr. and his wife Liz of Naugatuck and David Schmecker and his wife Dorothy of Arizona, his daughter Diane Krivda and her husband Bob of Ansonia, his sisters Madeline Sarkes, Dorothy Sarkes, Theresa Sorce, Marie Sarkes and Patricia Joseph, his cherished grandchildren Suzanne King-Smith and her husband Noah, Stacie Krivda, Peter Schmecker and Ronald Schmecker, Jr., and his great grandchildren Evie King-Smith, Abby Schmecker and Nathan Schmecker. He was predeceased by his brother Alfred Sarkes and sister Joan Webber. A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Tom's Life will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 10:00 am DIRECTLY at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Ave., Seymour. Interment in the family plot at St. Augustine Cemetery, Seymour will be in the Spring. Friends and relatives may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
